Iaido Class - Tameshigiri Seminar

On Monday 15th March 2010 the Bushido Martial Arts Iaido class participated in an bamboo cutting class, more commonly called Tameshigiri.

The session involved members of the class using a live blade sword, called a shinken, to cut through pieces of bamboo of various diameters.

The process of cutting through the bamboo helps the students to better analyse their cutting technique ensuring their blade is on the correct angle.

When their blade is on the correct angle, the bamboo is easily cut and falls to the ground next to the cutting stand.

This was the first time the students had participated in cutting bamboo and they all had a great time with many immediately suggesting we should be practicing Tameshigiri much more often.

A DVD of the session is available to members to make a copy and keep for their collection and reference.

Some photos of the cutting session have been added to the photo gallery.
